Help with pregnancy
I wanted to make people aware of how much Dr. Seghi
has helped me. About 7-8 years ago, I had a little girl, she was
31/2 years old at the time. My husband and I had been trying for
several years to have another child. Nothing that we tried was
working, we were also going to a specialist to help us get pregnant. I
tried medicine along with my husband for months. The doctor
scheduled us for an artificial insemination for the following month.
During that time I had been going to Dr. Seghi for a back problem.
I told him of our ongoing difficulties of trying to get pregnant.
Like the quiet man that he always is he said let me help you. He
adjusted me in my back and hip. As soon as I heard the pop my left
side ovary started to hurt. It hurt quite a bit for about an hour
and a half. My husband and I had stopped taking medication for
about a month during the time to see if we could do without medical
intervention. In the second to third week after my adjustment with
Dr. Seghi I had the artificial insemination scheduled and to our
surprise we found out that I was pregnant already. We believe that
Dr. Seghi's chiropractic intervention helped us get another child
without medical intrusion and drugs into our bodies. Thank you Dr.
Seghi.

Letter of Thanks
Dr. Seghi,
I'm writing to thank you for all of the care,
education, and patience that you provided during my several months of
treatment in late 2007 and earlier this year. When I first saw you
I was in a state of pain and confusion, as no care provider or expert
had been able to provide much help in either improving my neck problems
or explaining what was causing the problems in a meaningful way.
You not only provided thorough and careful treatment that greatly
improved my condition but also provided clear explanations of the
biomechanical problems that likely caused it.
Additionally, you provided consistent support and
guidance on overcoming the psychological issues that arise when dealing
with a chronic condition, as well as, a pathway to other care providers
such as Mark Hernandez and Jan Hutchinson to augment the healing
process. Your personal story of strength and persistence in
recovering from your past injuries also provided additional inspiration
and incentive to maintain the best attitude during healing and recovery.
As of today I am nearly back to my old self and while
I am still seeing Jan Hutchinson it feels like we are nearing the point
where I am healthy and on my own. I may return to you in the
future for maintenance care and additional guidance but as for now,
thank you once again.
Regards,

Athlete hit by a car-now what?
My name is Randy F. I am an RN and have been
around medicine for 20 years. I know and understand the human
body. Until recently, I was also a chiropractic skeptic.
On March 8th of this year, I was training for a
triathlon, riding my bicycle, obeying traffic laws and etiquette.
I was broadsided by an SUV. I was ejected from my bicycle, thrown
approximately ten feet in the air and thirty feet down the road. I
sustained serious injuries. I had broken bones in one foot,
muscles bruised and torn in both legs, two sprained ankles, deep
abrasions over much of my lower body, my back and neck were in serious
pain. My head hurt, I could not walk, I could barely breath, and I
felt like crying all the time.
My physical medicine doctor (after all the CT scans,
MRI's, X-rays, lab work), said "take a Vicodin and don't walk."
I was in a lawyers office, on crutches, looking like...well like I felt,
bad. He told me he wanted me to go see this guy Gary Seghi, a
chiropractor. I had no interest at all on being a part of a plan
like that. Then, the lawyer said, "Listen, I know this guy, you've
been hit by a car, you're hurt, and you need help. He's a good
man."
I went to see Gary. I encountered a gentle and
understanding individual. He talked to me for a long time before he ever
laid a hand on me. He not only had a thorough understanding of
what had happened, how I felt, and where I wanted to go, but also of
what I believed and who I was. He was genuinely concerned.
He took a great deal of time that first day explaining what he
thought we ought to do. He would not give me a time frame for me
to be 'all better'.
I was absolutely terrified to let anyone touch me,
let alone mess around with my neck and back. I was in such pain.
When he first touched my neck and adjusted it I burst into tears.
Weird!! It was from relief I think. All I know is that I
felt better the next day. Every time I came into his office he
re-evaluated me. He never launched into a treatment without an
interview. I could feel the pain getting better everyday.
Gary helped me to understand the depth and severity
of my injuries. He helped me respect what had happened, come to
terms with it, and develop some patience around the healing process.
I kept asking, 'what now?' and he kept saying, 'now you heal'. Dr
Seghi has an intimate understanding of how the mind works around pain
and disability. He incorporates long experience, a deep knowledge
base, uncanny insight and a holistic philosophy in the practice of his
craft. I am deeply grateful for his care. I trust him.
It took a long time. I'm almost back to 100%,
four months later.
Once skeptical
I first came to Dr. Seghi to
have my neck adjusted after a car accident. I also had been
suffering from shingles, but no treatment had ever been effective.
Dr. Seghi told me he could make them disappear while treating my neck.
After two weeks they were 90% gone. If I had been told that I could be cured with
adjustments I would have been skeptical but he proved it before my
eyes. In addition, Dr. Seghi never over adjusts. He is judicious in
his treatment. I recommend him highly.

Dental
pain
I had dental pain
for over a year with two teeth and received treatments including an
extraction and root canal surgery and the pain persisted. I was
told by an oral surgeon that the pain could be neurological. Gary
Seghi was able to stop the pain with a few adjustments to the atlas
vertebrae of my neck.

Acid Reflux &
Dizziness
Chiropractic care has helped me a lot. I became
ill (with acid reflux and dizziness) and no one could
seem to find the problem. When I visited Dr. Seghi
he detected small problems that needed to be adjusted.
Within the next three visits my illness (acid reflux and
dizziness) started to go away. I can now say that
with the help of Dr. Seghi and chiropractic adjustments
I'm back to being me. My illness affected a lot of
things in my life, but I'm just glad that it is over and
that I can move on and live healthy. Chiropractic
care has helped me get my life back to the way it was
and I'm happy we have it and doctors like Dr. Seghi who
are dedicated to it and to helping people like me.

Appreciation
I was 59 years of
age before I experienced "daily" low back pain. I visited my
primary care physician numerous times for the back pain, each time I was
prescribed medication and/or physical therapy. After this
line of treatment was not successful I was referred to pain management.
There, I was prescribed a back brace, a tens unit, an anti-inflammatory,
a muscle relaxer, and a class A narcotic for the pain. After
several months under pain management without positive results, I was
given the choice of additional physical therapy, epidurals or seeing a
chiropractor.
I made an appointment with Dr. Seghi, a
chiropractor. He assured me on the first visit he could help me,
but if there came a time when he couldn't, he would tell me.
During the next six months, Dr. Seghi made me aware of what I should
expect of my back and gave me the tools and skills to keep it as healthy
as possible.
Now, should I feel discomfort, I use ice or heat and
if needed, a visit or two with Dr. Seghi returns my back to its healthy
state. I would recommend chiropractic care with a chiropractor
like Dr. Seghi who practices the Gonstead technique. The relief I
have experienced through chiropractic care and without the use of
medication has allowed me to enjoy life once again.

Conducting an orchestra
I am an Italian
Physics major with some 13 faulty processes in my spine. I am
fastidious when it comes to food, art, design and architecture as might
be expected. I am also skeptical of anything short of a scientific
approach when dealing with complexity.
Professor Gary, as I like
to refer to him, is a true Renaissance figure in my book.
Brilliant, personable, compassionate and well researched. Gary operates
a first class care facility that is as efficient as it is aesthetically
pleasant and welcoming to his clients. Within its walls Gary has
long been producing miracles on a daily basis, relieving all kinds of
folks from a broad spectrum of traumas.
Gary's success is
delivered through a meticulously executed strategy. Most
chiropractors typically perform non-specific and crude manipulations.
Gary patiently x-rays the problems, measures deviations, and proceeds to
correct them through a crescendo of directional and precisely delivered,
often minute, adjustments.
Our muscle-skeletal system is an
instrument of such complexity that tuning it for proper performance is
as challenging as conducting an orchestra of blindfolded musicians.
Not only can Gary confidently conduct such an orchestra, but he actually
amazes us by constantly writing new music.

Relief!
I sustained multiple injuries to
my spine, at the base of my neck and the middle and lower parts of my
back. When the vertebrae in the middle back, between my shoulder
blades, slip out of alignment, pain ensues. The muscles around the
middle back tighten, and particularly, my breathing is restricted. When
the doctor adjusts my middle back, I enjoy instant relief from the pain,
and my breathing immediately becomes easier and more relaxed. The onset
of the restricted breathing is gradual and not really noticeable;
however, the relief is instant and unmistakable.

A program for living
I first met Dr.
Seghi in 1992, at that time I was despondent and without hope due to
constant chronic back pain. Dr. Seghi was the first doctor ever to
recognize and understand my problem. He immediately took charge
and started me on a program for living. His encouragement and
expertise in spinal manipulation began to turn my life around.
Through him, I gained the hope and knowledge I needed to continue my
life and manage my condition.

Migraine Headaches and Chiropractic Care
I have suffered with migraine
headaches since I was a child. I wasn’t diagnosed until my junior year
in High School, but I can remember having “sick” headaches when I was
much younger. I called them that because they made me nauseous and all
I wanted to do was go to sleep in a dark room, classic symptoms of
migraine headaches. My headaches are inherited; my Mother has them as
well, only not as severe as mine have been. My mother and I also share
an allergy to cigarette smoke. My father smoked all my growing up years
and to this day, I can not be around cigarette smoke without getting a
migraine unless I take preventative medicine first. That is just one of
the triggers form my migraines. Over the years I have outgrown some
triggers and discovered new ones, but the most consistent are changes in
my hormones due to menstruation cycles, extreme changes in temperatures,
high atmospheric pressure, stress and the previously mentioned cigarette
smoke.
Over the years I have tried a
multitude of medications-some with success, others that did absolutely
nothing. Elavil, Cafergot, Imatrex, Zomig to name just a few; only the
Cafergot has been consistently successful at preventing migraines and
Zomig has been somewhat successful at easing the pain.
I had read in several articles
about migraines that people were having some relief with Chiropractic
care. I asked my primary care physician if I could give it a try. At
that point, I was having at least one (migraine) headache a month
(usually tied to my hormones) and usually two or three headaches a
month. I was taking the preventative medication, Cafergot, almost daily
to ensure that I could get through a day without getting a headache,
especially during the extremely hot summer months. I was seeking a more
holistic solution to my migraines, one that would lessen my dependence
on medications.
Since beginning Chiropractic
care with Dr. Seghi I have eliminated the need for daily medication and
I do not need to refill my medications nearly as often. I will
occasionally take a Cafergot if I know that I’m going to be in a
situation which is most likely to trigger a migraine and when I do get
them they are much less severe than they used to be. And most recently,
I went 4 weeks without even the threat of a migraine, having a headache
the day before my chiropractic appointment.
I am very pleased with the
results I have gotten from chiropractic care. I have fewer headaches,
and a lesser need for medications. With prescription drug costs
escalating, this is especially important to me.

Prostate Problems
Prostate problems! I’ve
struggled with an enlarging prostate for over four years; from
discomfort, to partial incontinence, to penile dysfunction, to complete
blockage, to catheters, to non-invasive surgery. I’ve done it.
Then the logic of nerve
communication was brought to my attention. If a machine breaks down, we
check the wiring, right? Why not the same for me?
One month after my prostate
procedure, with an abdominal catheter replacing the function of an
otherwise blocked urinary tract, Dr. Seghi treated me. We had already
done the X-ray and MRI preliminaries. A few treatments later, normal
urination was returning and I was ridding myself of the abdominal
catheter. I used a self-inserted catheter, as a back up, for another
two weeks and, with continuing treatments, was able to stop that, too.
To say that I am delighted is a
gross understatement. I sometimes lament the fact that I did not find
Dr. Seghi sooner than I did, but that thought is soon overwhelmed by the
gratification I feel for where I am today, and the anticipation of where
I’m going. Incidentally, I first went to see him for a sore shoulder.
I appreciate Dr. Seghi's whole
body approach and feel very fortunate that I met him when I did. He’s a
good man!

Can this marriage be saved?
Dr. Gary Seghi
cured my husbands rotator cuff after surgery was advised as the only
solution. He then discovered the reason for chronic back pain and
proceeded to cure it! Through his medical expertise and practical
suggestions for minor lifestyle changes our lives have been enhanced
immeasurably. We both thank him and our children thank him.
Happily married again!

Trigeminal neuralgia
I have trigeminal
neuralgia. I consulted Dr. Seghi after my neurologist said that he
could do nothing more for me. He recommended surgery. Dr.
Seghi's treatments relieved the stress from the nerves in my face and I
can now live with the disease.

Reclaiming my life!
In January of 2001
I experienced weakness in my left leg while walking around Town Lake.
The weakness persisted and occurred again a couple of days later while
walking around Town Lake with the addition of my left foot not flexing
enough to allow me to walk steadily.
I was advised by
several friends to go see me doctor. I went to see my doctor.
I described my symptoms and also told him I had been rowing and walking
a great deal. He sent me for an MRI. My doctor called me a
couple of days later, while I was driving to the airport and informed me
that he received the report on my MRI that said that I had MS. He
also said he suspected this was the problem.
Over the next two
and a half years I began seeing a succession of neurologists, other MD
specialists and physical therapists. I saw almost every
neurologist in Austin. I traveled to Chicago and Florida to see
specialists. I consulted the best physicians and authorities that
I could find. I was put on heavy doses of steroids as well as
daily injections of interferon drugs. I read everything I could
get my hands on related to MS I spoke with doctors and MS patients
all over the country.
During the entire
two and a half years I felt something was wrong with my diagnosis.
I didn't fell like I had MS. The original lumbar puncture they did
to confirm my diagnosis was inconclusive. I kept searching for an
answer. I wasn't buying what the medical community wanted me to
accept. By this point I had educated myself about MS and I was
fairly certain that I didn't have MS.
On June 6, 2003 I
went to see Gary Seghi, D.C. on the recommendation of a friend.
Dr. Seghi did a series of x-rays and talked with me. He told me he
saw extreme disc problems in three places in my back. He also told
me this would account for my left leg weakness and associated pain in
several places in my back and neck. He was skeptical about a
diagnosis of MS. He also told me he thought he could help.
Quite frankly, at this point I thought fine, this is one more avenue to
try and what would I have to lose?
Much to my surprise
and great pleasure, I began to experience a gradual relief of pain right
from the beginning. With each appointment Dr. Seghi explained what
he was doing and the progress I was making.
I have been amazed
and so pleased I came to see him. I am now walking and biking
around Town Lake almost totally pain free and with almost no weakness in
my left leg. I am getting stronger and healthier everyday. I
want to thank Dr. Seghi for his excellent treatment and the miraculous
results he has been able to achieve with me. I truly feel like Dr.
Seghi has helped me reclaim my life and what a gift this has been!

Miracles of Alternative Medicine
I suspect most people in the
U.S. grew up like I did – going to a physician when they were ill or
injured and getting a prescription, undergoing surgery or having some
other traditional treatments. I never questioned if there was a better
or different way until I came to Austin and my health spiraled downward.
Some stressful lifestyle choices like changing jobs, moving four times
in six months, the final move to a large city, and going through a divorce
caused numerous physical problems. I looked like I had an eating
disorder from so much weight loss. My hair fell out and my fingernails
turned to mush. I coughed 24 hours a day from allergies. Often the
coughing spells resulted in vomiting causing even more weight loss.
Traditional doctors prescribed strong antidepressants, sleep aides,
allergy medicine and inhalants. In spite of all the drugs, my
conditions worsened. I started taking other drugs to counteract the
side effects of the initial drugs.
I went to a chiropractor because
of chronic pain in my upper back. He said, “You know, Shirley, your
body has the innate ability to heal itself if you remove some of the
blocks that prevent it from doing so.” At a spiritual level, that made
sense to me because I think God made us to be healthy and happy. While
skeptical, I was desperate for relief. That was four years ago. Today
I am 55 years old and just completed riding 75 miles in the Lance
Armstrong Ride for the Roses. I take no prescription drugs. I am
stronger and more flexible than I have ever been. I look 10 years
younger. I have regained the weight. I have no allergies. I am
sleeping better. While I attribute the recovery to the chiropractors, I
had to make some lifestyle changes, too. I got my first ever gym
membership, hired a trainer, and changed my eating habits. I went to an
acupuncturist who does cranial sacral treatments, acupuncture and
massages. She helped me find the best combination of natural herbs and
vitamins and non traditional treatments. It was the continual hope that
my body could indeed heal itself that kept me searching.
A friend asked me how I could
afford the treatments. I asked her, “How much are you spending on your
prescription drugs?” She said $100/month on prescription drugs and she
did not know how much on non prescription drugs. I asked how many
different doctors she was seeing and what was her out of pocket expenses
for them. I spend less money than she does but I spend mine on
prevention. I asked her to consider the difference in our health since
we are the same age. She has high blood pressure, has had two heart
attacks, several bouts with cancer, and numerous, unpleasant side
effects from the prescription drugs.
“Healers” or providers of
alternative medicine get a bum rap about how often a patient sees them.
People think they should be cured in one or two treatments. But I look
at my treatments much like brushing teeth—as preventative measures that
keep my body functioning as God intended it to. I am not going to stop
brushing my teeth or having them cleaned every six months and I am not
going to stop these preventative treatments that keep me strong and
feeling great.

Thanks
Just a note to say thanks for
taking such good care of me when my back and neck get all tight and
creaky. You know, years ago when a friend referred me to you, I was a
little nervous about seeing a chiropractor because of my back surgery
for scoliosis. I thought with a back fused from T4 to L3 there wouldn’t
be much you could do for the back strain, and I really just expected to
have to live with it. But I took my friend’s advice—he said, “If Gary
can’t do anything for you, he’ll tell you straight out.” And you really
did help—an you explained the problem real well too. It made sense that
if 13 vertebrae were fused, then the ones that weren’t fused would be
doing most of the work, and if you could treat the area above and below
the fusion, then that would make a big difference. And it has.
Especially after I had Paul and was lifting and carrying him and getting
him in and out of a car seat in the middle back seat of a big ol’
car…I’m telling you, I don’t think I’d have made it without the
occasional adjustment. You’ve always fixed me right up when I needed
it, and I just had to tell you I really appreciate it.
The best to you and your staff.
Thanks again,
Mary Elliott
Finally, chiropractic!
I want to say thank you.
When I initially came to you I didn't have much faith that chiropractics
would be the 'answer'. I do apologize for saying it, but frankly,
I considered chiropractors as a short step up from witch-doctors and
voodoo! I was totally wrong.
After searching for two years,
speaking to four doctors in the field of orthopedics, having spinal
injections, trying numerous types of drugs and taking Celebrex twice a
day everyday, I was facing the prospect of either accepting daily pain
and living half a life or having back surgery and dealing with all the
possible outcomes of that. I was told by one surgeon that I
didn't have to live like that...surgery would instantly cure the
problem and in addition to that, he assured me that I didn't even need a
second opinion!
Well, needless to say, I ran (or more
accurately-hobbled) away as quickly as possible and headed straight for
a second opinion!
Finally, I did find a back doctor that I felt I
could trust and was kind and patient and tried to help, Dr. Obermiller.
After trying all he could including months of physical therapy, and a
cortisone injection in the spinal area he referred me to another
surgeon in his group who said that maybe surgery would help and
maybe not. No guarantee. That didn't sound too promising
either.
During this time my employer kept encouraging me to go to
a chiropractor. I kept thinking no way! Chiropractors never
fix anything and once you start going you never finish. You have
to keep going the rest of your life for adjustments. No way am I
going to waste my time and money on that.
So finally mostly to say
I had exhausted all other possibilities prior to going under the knife I
asked Dr. Obermiller if he thought chiropractics might help. His
response was that there was only one chiropractor in Austin he would
even consider referring me to--"the bicycle guy", Dr. Gary
Seghi.
Dr. Obermiller said to try it for
five weeks and if it didn't
work then we would look at surgery again. Why didn't I find you
two years earlier? You told me straight up that if you could help
it would certainly take no more than five weeks to see a drastic
improvement. After your assessment of the problem and after the
first few sessions I felt like a miracle had occurred! I could
walk, stand, lie down, sit, everything without that excruciating pain I
had felt everyday for the past two years.
I don't understand it
but I am a complete convert. You helped relieve a pain that two
years of physical therapy and four other doctors never did. For
that I thank you so much. I would say that you have no idea how
horrible it is to be in pain, how it limits your life and has such a
negative affect on your whole attitude but I know without a doubt that
you do know.
With all my thanks,
Fay McBroom
